There is so much I could say about Cooper… He was the reason we decided to breed our first litter of Golden Retriever puppies. We wanted everyone who loved a Golden Retriever to have the same incredible experiences with this breed as we did/do. Am/Can/IABKCA CH. Winfield’s MVP Cooperstown, NA, NAJ, CGC was Trillium Goldens’ foundation and the reason you are reading this now.

Quite simply, Cooper was our FIRST…. Our FIRST show dog. Our FIRST American, Canadian, IABKCA champion. Our FIRST agility titled dog.

His temperament was exactly what the standard calls for -- “friendly, reliable, trustworthy.” He was all that and more!

Physically, he was a moderate dog – again what the standard calls for. He had beautiful movement, a dead-level back and gorgeous head. He was a strong, vital and athletic dog whose only ambition in life was to please me. We competed in agility together when he was 7 years old and it was a very new sport in the United States. He was one qualifying round shy of his Open titles when his body was overcome by leukemia.

With tears in our eyes, we will always remember his BIG smile and his BIG heart. Cooper was happiest when he was “on stage” and people seemed captivated in his presence.

He never met a person or animal that he didn’t call “friend.” If only we could all go through life with this same perspective.

Cancer affects 30-50% of all dogs. A higher incidence in certain breeds suggests that genetic risk factors exist and can be identified. Please support and advance canine cancer research.
