In many ways, Libby embodies her sire’s (Cooper) best attributes in a female form. She is balanced, moderate in size, beautiful headpiece, strong back and effortless movement with a HUGE side gait for such a “little thing!”
After finishing our first two Goldens (Cooper and Kelsey) in relatively easy fashion, we had high hopes that Libby would achieve her championship and more. We were half right! Libby was (and still is) probably the best female we’ve ever bred, as exhibited by her Best Bred-By Exhibitor In Show award. But her American Championship was not to be. Libby had some WONDERFUL conformation wins – she won numerous Bred-By Exhibitor classes at specialties, including the Western Regional in 1998. She has a Best of Opposite Sex in Sweepstakes as a puppy and as a veteran. If the AKC gave credit for major reserves, Libby would have finished her CH a couple times over! She had 13 major reserves – any one of which would have finished her championship!
When Libby was 5 years old she contracted a uterine infection and consequently had to be spayed. So no championship and no puppies from our most favored and cherished heir apparent. But all was not lost…
Like Cooper, Libby had a natural talent for Agility! Although she began training at almost 6 years old, she still achieved her Excellent Standard and Open Agility Jumpers titles with ease. As is customary for our dogs, Libby took to Agility right away and LOVED being on stage and “performing” for the crowds, no matter what the venue.
Libby is retired now, but her “woo woos” can be heard throughout our house at meal time. And at 13 years 3 months, she is our oldest living Golden thus far. We knew she was destined to break records – we just didn’t know what kind.
